How full on 2003 Olds Alero transaxle when U remove plug/cap?
I removed cap/ there is no dipstick. didn't see any fluid , it doesn't have any leaks in garage?
Also seems to be surging a lil bit
no there is no dipstick , I assume this is like and old chevy manual trans where the fluid should be level with the plug hole except this plug/cap is on top instead of on the side, I still not sure how full?

it is a plastic cap/plug w/an o ring definitly no dipstick and no room to pull it out even if there was
I have a 2000 Alero with auto and the V6 as well (3.4 litres). GM /Chevy have used auto transaxles without a dipstick since at least the late 1990s. (my '99 Malibu was the same).

You did find the filler /vent cap /plug on top of the transmission. This cap is not for checking the level - it is just for adding the ATF fluid (or additives). The way to check for proper level is the same way as on most manual transmissions. i.e., Check that the oil has reached or is at the same level as the bottom threads of the "check hole".
Where's the plug/bolt for the transmission check hole? It's not far from the engine oilpan drain bolt, but on the transmission of course, and not far above the transaxle pan.
My Haynes manual says:
"The check plug is located near the pan, adjacent to the engine oil drain plug. The ATF fluid level should be at the bottome of the check hole. Make sure that your car is on good jack stands and level. If fluid pours out excessively, the transaxle may have been overfilled. Double check to make sure that the car is level. If no fluid drips from the check hole, add small amounts of fluid through the vent/fill cap at the top of the transaxle until the level is at the bottom of the check hole. A long necked funnel will be necessary to add fluid."
I've found that you'll need a narrow long-necked funnel to do the trick. Might be easier to just use a 12 inch or so long plastic or rubber tube taped to a funnel and pour it in that way.
Good luck. But don't worry about searching for a broken dipstick that fell into your transaxle pan - there is no dipstick on these auto transaxles...
